PUBLISHER'S STATEMENT
I have been told imitation is the most sincere form of flattery — but it's
coming from unexpected quarters. Chip Goodman, publisher of Swank magazine, must
have heard about Cinema X's astronomical sales figures because now the man who
formerly would not even accept advertising for porn films is now hustling multi-page reviews of hardcore flicks into the pages of his mag. So be it — but I hope he doesn't follow the precedent set by Al Goldstein, of Screw, and give every 'cooperating' producer a 100 % rating on his flick. Even with present film budgets pegged over the $100,000 mark, all films are NOT real winners. I believe adult film audiences deserve the totally honest, qualified reviews that appear in Cinema X. Every production CAN'T be rated 100%. No way! I wonder how long editor Manny Newhouse can last with 'Porn Stars'. And I wonder when Swank mag. will throw a coming-out-of-the-closet party for Chip Goodman. Hear he has to pay people to come to his own parties.
On the brighter side, you readers have broken our mailman's back with your fantastic response to our January issue centerfold star's invitation to write to her in care of us. In the face of the mailslide, who else could be chosen to be the prize in our Win-A-Dream-Day contest than sex-queen Marlene Willoughby? Both male and female readers over 18 are encouraged to compete for a day with a star who can sing and dance and cook (for real!) and who is single, hot, and horny! Your entry blank is in this issue. While I always try to be the first publisher to spotlight new screen talent, magazine space restrictions make it impossible to give every upcoming star her well-deserved publicity. To choose just one Rising Star from the abundance of fabulous faces and figures, each month, is the most difficult part of being head of Cinema-X.
