A QUESTION OF NUDITY
UNIQUE Readers...What's Happening!
In the Vol. 1, Issue No. 3 of UNIQUE magazine, we started a survey page and the
response was overwhelming. First and foremost, I would like to say, "Wow,
thanks! Your participation was fantastic." We will continue the survey page
in this issue and future issues of UNIQUE. We need your help, so please fill out
the form and let us know what you think about our magazine.
While viewing the survey page from readers throughout the nation, we've found
that there is much concern about the nudity displayed in UNIQUE Magazine. The
controversy stems from child pornography, obscenity and nudity. I would like to
shed some light on the concept of nudity in our magazine. Like most men sophisticates
in the field, UNIQUE's nude pictorials are intended to be erotic. However, we
try to make the nude pictorials considerably more artistic and sensual than the
skin magazine genre.
In our premiere issue, we experimented with four different nude layout concepts:
The "innocent girl next door," the "worldly woman," the "gap
shot temptress," and the "artistically sensual nude." Based on
readership response, the general consensus indicates a preference for artistically
sensuous nudes, without resorting to the more explicit "gap shots."
UNIQUE believes that Black women are very romantic and it is our desire to always
display UNIQUE's women in this vein.
I feel that the content of UNIQUE doesn't have to go through the extremes of child
pornography, bondage and sado-masochistic perversions. I sincerely feel that the
women being displayed in UNIQUE are truly visions of beauty that can satisfy the
erotic fantasies of most men. We feel that today's Black women have evolved beyond
the Aunt Jemima role; they are no longer being portrayed as fat, kinky, and second-class
beauties.
Therefore, UNIQUE will continue to exhibit Black women with the class and sophistication
they so readily deserve. UNIQUE will present other forms of tasteful nudes such
as couples and sometimes dudes in the nude (women read our magazine, too). However,
we wouldn't present anything that may be offensive to the UNIQUE readers. So sit
back and enjoy this month's issue.

strive to "give the readers what they want."
